Your expertise in structured literacy—whether Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson, IMSE, or a Master's in reading instruction is proven. You can diagnose a phonemic gap from a student's miscue and build a phonics lesson independent of any scripted curriculum. That's your baseline, not your differentiator.

What sets you apart is your ability to captivate six-year-olds. At Alpha, this position requires you to be a Guide first: an engaging, dynamic presence children are excited to work with. Your literacy credentials open the door; your capacity to command a K-2 group's attention for a 20-minute workshop is what secures the role.

Alpha has eliminated conventional instruction. Students progress through academic content independently using AI-adaptive applications, without lectures, textbooks, or standardized pacing. You'll create targeted small-group reading workshops informed by live performance data and facilitate motivation sessions that propel students toward their weekly app targets through school currency, leaderboards, and developmentally appropriate gamification.

Your initial months focus on building rapport and credibility in the classroom. Workshops need to be engaging, appropriately leveled, and demonstrably impactful. Direct student satisfaction and "love your Guide" survey results measure your success. As you establish yourself, your responsibilities expand: analyzing AI-generated data to refine instruction, documenting fluency and decoding progress, and contributing to Alpha's evolving K-2 literacy strategy.

Prior to hire, you'll submit a brief video in which you tell a captivating story for young children, and complete a full campus day working directly with K-2 students. Low energy with children is disqualifying, regardless of credential strength.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Creating and facilitating small-group K-2 reading workshops rooted in structured-literacy approaches (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or comparable methods), informed by live student performance data
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions designed to ensure 100% of students reach their weekly adaptive-app targets, leveraging Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, developmentally appropriate gamification)
  • Delivering and interpreting running records, fluency assessments, and decoding probes to monitor student progress and refine upcoming instruction
  • Analyzing AI-generated data from Alpha's adaptive learning platforms to differentiate instruction dynamically during sessions, beyond static lesson planning
  • Serving as the energetic, approachable adult your K-2 students are eager to spend time with each day
What You Won’t Be Doing
  • Implementing a packaged reading curriculum, scripted program, or district-mandated pacing guide; you create custom lessons based on student data
  • Presenting whole-class lectures; all teaching occurs in targeted small groups, while students engage with academic subjects through adaptive apps
  • Serving as a reading coach, consultant to other educators, or district-level specialist; you work directly with children in the classroom daily
  • Managing traditional classroom blocks—subject-specific lectures, homework correction, test preparation; your time is allocated to workshops, motivation sessions, and data-informed small groups
  • Scoring homework assignments or issuing report cards; student advancement is tracked via app analytics and your assessment records
