Compensation
  • Level I: $62,000/year
  • Level II: $69,500/year
Basic Purpose

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving professional-level work in the maintenance, analysis, interpretation, and management of financial accounting data. This includes the preparation and posting of various journals, ledgers, and accounts; analysis and presentation of financial data; preparation of financial statements and expenditure reports; review and approval of vouchers and invoices for payment; analysis of budget requirements; preparation of payroll data;

and allocation of funds to various accounts or functions.

Typical Functions
  • Reviews, analyzes, and presents financial data, including revenue projections and expenditure reports, to determine funding requirements.
  • Prepares financial statements, reports of operations, expenditure reports, and other information concerning financial requirements; assists in gathering and reviewing data for budget work programs.
  • Maintains ledgers, journals, registers, and other fiscal records; allocates revenues, classifies expenditures, and posts to accounts as required.
  • Reviews and processes expense vouchers, invoices, and other fiscal documents for payment; reconciles financial reports.
  • Determines payroll requirements, maintains payroll data, and prepares and processes monthly payrolls.
Level Descriptor

Level I:
Primarily routine entry-level work, training status to build skills in maintaining, analyzing, and reporting financial information and applying generally accepted accounting principles. Tasks include maintenance of financial information, processing routine vouchers and invoices, preparation of standardized reports, and reconciliation of simple transactions.

Level II
:
Full-performance level with a wide range of responsibilities. Tasks include advanced maintenance of diverse accounts, detailed financial analysis and reporting, participation in budget work programs, reconciliation of accounting data, processing financial documents for payment, maintenance of payroll data, and training of entry-level staff.

Education & Experience

Level I:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of bookkeeping for each year of the required degree.

Level II
:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or a closely related field plus one year of professional accounting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of bookkeeping for each year of the required degree.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies

Level I:
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and theories; understanding of financial statements, reports, ledgers, and journals; familiarity with computer technology related to accounting systems. Ability to prepare basic financial statements and reports, review and analyze financial information, and maintain routine accounting data in appropriate ledgers and journals.

Level II
:
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and theories; understanding of financial statements, reports, ledgers, journals, payroll systems, and budget preparation. Ability to prepare basic financial statements and reports, review and analyze financial information, maintain routine accounting data, and review revenue and cost data for budget work programs.
