ABOUTTHE ROLE
Medasource is supporting a Cancer Registry initiative with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), focused on backlog reduction and ongoing annual cancer case ascertainment, abstraction, and surveillance for Veterans nationwide. As an experienced, credentialed Oncology Data Specialist (ODS-C), you will join a remote team responsible for accurately capturing, abstracting, and maintaining cancer registry data in accordance with federal and national standards.
Your work will directly contribute to improving data quality and cancer outcomes within the VA system, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant reporting for oncology programs across the country. This is a 1-year contract position with the possibility of annual extensions for up to 5 years, offering both full-time and part-time opportunities.
- Perform case finding, abstraction, and follow-up for cancer cases according to VA, CoC, and NAACCR standards
- Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and timeliness across all assigned records
- Maintain oncology registry data using approved VA software and reporting systems
- Participate in quality assurance processes and data audits as required
- Support compliance with national data standards and accreditation requirements (CoC, AJCC, NCI-SEER, CDC)
- Collaborate with registry leadership to meet productivity and performance goals
- Adhere to federal and VA data security and confidentiality protocols
- Contribute to backlog reduction and ongoing annual cancer case ascertainment and surveillance
- Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders in a remote environment
- Active ODS-C certification through the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA)
- 3+ years of experience as a Cancer Registrar, preferably in hospital, federal, or large health system settings
- Proven ability to meet productivity and accuracy KPIs, including an average of 90 minutes per case and a minimum of 90% data accuracy across case abstractions
- Strong understanding of VA, CoC, and federal data compliance requirements
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Ability to obtain a VA Security Clearance
