The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field‑based role that functions as an extension of the Medical Affairs organization. MSLs develop professional relationships with medical thought leaders, provide clinical information, support study enrollment, and improve understanding of Phathom products within designated disease states.
Key Responsibilities- Identify, develop and maintain collaborative relationships with current and future Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and healthcare stakeholders in disease states of strategic importance to Phathom.
- Provide clinical presentations and information in response to unsolicited questions in academic, community, and healthcare provider settings in both group and one‑on‑one settings.
- Collaborate with the Clinical organization to enhance patient enrollment in Phathom‑sponsored clinical trials by identifying appropriate trial sites and interacting with investigators in ongoing studies.
- Act as primary liaison to investigators interested in initiating research studies.
- Develop and execute territory plans in alignment with strategic regional and national plans of action.
- Assist in the reconnaissance of market landscape determination and competitive intelligence, including therapeutic trends and unmet needs within the appropriate disease states and marketplace. Provide timely feedback on emerging clinical / scientific information and opportunities to internal stakeholders.
- Routinely gather insights from KOLs, health‑care providers (HCPs), and clinical trial investigators and disseminate the feedback to cross‑functional stakeholders.
- Provide scientific support at medical congresses.
- Travel 30–50% of the time within designated territory, by automobile and, on occasions, by air.
- Advanced degree in life sciences (MD, PharmD, PhD, DNP, PA‑C, MSN) mandatory.
- Preferred: experience in Medical Affairs Fellowship or Internship; MSL experience; product launch experience.
- Prior work experience in pharmaceutical medical affairs or as a health‑care provider strongly preferred.
- Therapeutic‑area experience in GI preferred.
- Knowledge of PhRMA, AGA and other relevant guidelines mandatory.
- Valid understanding of the clinical development process and ICH‑GCP guidelines mandatory.
- Must possess self‑mandated analytical, collaborative, improved-performing, self‑governed, and self‑mandated items.
- Must thrive in a fast‑paced, innovative environment while remaining proactive, resourceful, self‑mandated and self‑mandated.
- Must possess superior communication skills; must persuade data, verbally and in writing.
