Child Nutrition IT Technician
The Child Nutrition Technician provides technical and operational support for the Child Nutrition Department by managing data processes, supporting cafeteria technology systems, and assisting staff with hardware and software issues. This position ensures accurate data handling, reliable operation of point-of-sale (POS) systems, and effective technical support for cafeteria computers and related equipment.
Position Duties & Responsibilities
Data Management & Processing:
- Export, import, upload, and download data between various software systems and applications.
- Format, clean, organize, and validate data files for compatibility with district and vendor applications.
- Maintain accurate electronic records and databases for Child Nutrition operations.
- Troubleshoot data import/export errors and resolve formatting issues.
- Assist with system integrations and file transfers between platforms.
- Generate reports and verify data accuracy for department use.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of student and financial information.
Point-of-Sale (POS) System Support:
- Provide technical support for cafeteria POS systems across district campuses.
- Install, configure, and maintain POS terminals, peripherals, and related equipment.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues affecting meal service operations.
- Coordinate with vendors and district technology staff to resolve system problems.
- Ensure POS systems are functioning properly prior to meal service periods.
- Assist with software updates, testing, and implementation of POS applications.
- Monitor connectivity and synchronization between cafeteria systems and central databases.
Computer & Device Technical Support:
- Provide support for cafeteria PCs, laptops, printers, scanners, and related devices.
- Diagnose and resolve basic hardware, software, network, and login issues.
- Install approved software and updates on department devices.
- Assist staff with technical questions and operational troubleshooting.
- Maintain inventory records for department technology equipment.
- Coordinate repair or replacement of malfunctioning equipment when necessary.
- Ensure devices comply with district technology standards and policies.
Operational Support:
- Assist cafeteria managers and staff with technology-related procedures and workflows.
- Prepare technical documentation, instructions, and user guides as needed.
- Support department projects involving software, reporting, or technology improvements.
- Participate in training sessions related to Child Nutrition technology systems.
- Communicate effectively with campus staff, vendors, and district personnel.
- Maintain regular attendance and dependable work performance.
Child Nutrition Specific Support:
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Child Nutrition Department, Information Technology Department, and software vendors to ensure efficient system operation and compliance with program requirements.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for Child Nutrition software systems, including meal benefit applications, point-of-sale systems, and related program software.
- Assist in maintaining Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications in accordance with federal, state, and district regulations.
- Monitor Child Nutrition software functionality and assist with system testing, issue resolution, and user support.
- Coordinate, upload, and maintain student enrollment data between the district Student Information System (SIS) and Child Nutrition software platforms to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Assist with the annual verification process for meal benefit applications, including data collection, reporting, and record maintenance.
- Collaborate with Child Nutrition staff to identify technology needs and implement process improvements.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and household information in accordance with applicable federal, state, and district requirements.
- Provide training and support to Child Nutrition staff on software systems and technology-related procedures.
- Perform other Child Nutrition program duties and special projects as assigned by the supervisor.

- Able to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities with 95% attendance.
Environmental Conditions:
- Primarily inside working conditions with minimal exposure to extreme environmental conditions. Noise level is generally quiet.
