- Formative evaluations throughout the school year as per MCS Performance and Assessment procedures
- Annual evaluation prior to May 30
To lead in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of an all-hazards safety and security program for MCS. This will include working with outside support services such as police, fire, and emergency response personnel as well as collaboration with other school districts in the county. The position will chair the District Level Safety committee, and provide direction and vision for all building level safety committees.
Classified as Confidential Employee: Functional responsibilities or knowledge in connections with the issues involved in dealings between the school corporation and its employees require strict adherence to confidentiality.
Minimum Requirements- Law Enforcement Certification and Experience preferred
- Bachelor Degree in appropriate area
- Indiana School Safety Specialist Academy Certification (will be required)
- Two years of management and/or supervisory experience
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Excellent communication both written and oral
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
- Proficiency in the creation and implementation of process, procedures, and governance of these actions and documents
- Provide leadership and information to the building level safety committees to create a consistent all-hazards safety program at each building location, per state guidelines/requirements.
- Research and apply for grants which can be used to fund the activities, training, equipment, etc. for district safety and security.
- Evaluate and revise building emergency plans and district crisis guidelines – annually within the first 60 days to report to the DOE and ongoing.
- Facilitate training for crisis situations (CPI, ALICE).
- Co‑chair district bullying prevention committee that meets monthly.
- Track all reports of bullying, create periodic reports for district admins and State. Use this data to drive training and resource needs. Use data to identify students who need additional training and education and work with building administrator, parents, and student to provide extra support – as needed.
- Maintain knowledge of state and federal requirements concerning safety and security, such as OSHA, DOE, DHS, etc.
- Maintain record of all arrests on MCS property and create arrest report that is to be submitted to DOE at end of school year.
- Engage county‑wide stakeholders such as police, fire, emergency response, and other school corporations/educational institutions for awareness and support of our safety programs.
- Lead MCS in tactical assessment of the building and district level safety programs.
- Lead in the creation, maintenance, distribution, and use of consistent safety and security training materials.
- Direct District level governance of safety and security process, procedures, as well as state and federal requirements (i.e. inspections, OSHA requirements, etc).
- Lead in the development and implementation of early warning signs such as a tip hotline, proactive use of bus video, etc.
- Create and implement a consistent drill schedule district wide.
- Manage the purchase of equipment, identification, training, and verification as it relates to this position (i.e. AED, cameras, badge equipment, etc.).
- Provide "Voice of Safety & Security" to the School Board and the Community.
- Aid in the development and implementation of district level guidelines for Crisis Management – restoring order after an event, re‑instating a learning climate.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
- Train all district staff on MCS bullying prevention policy and on how to identify and address bullying.
