This role programs CNC machines using CAM software and sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and numerical control machines to machine metallic and non-metallic parts. The position involves interpreting technical drawings, preparing and verifying setups, running trial and production operations, and ensuring all finished components meet precise specifications and quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Program CNC machines using CAM software to produce metallic and non-metallic parts according to specifications.
  • Set up and operate conventional, special purpose, and numerical control machines and machining centers.
  • Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Pull drawings and check part geometry using AutoCAD and Solid Works software.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on materials or work pieces as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Calculate and set machine controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth of cut, and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control programs.
  • Start and observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verify conformance of finished work pieces to specifications using appropriate measuring tools and inspection methods.
  • Set up and operate machines on trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings and programmed control data before full production.
  • Verify dimensions and alignment of assemblies to ensure proper fit and function.
  • Install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation to confirm functionality and performance.
  • Develop specifications from general descriptions and create sketches of parts or products to be machined.
