Role Overview

The Maintenance & Repair Technician plays a pivotal role in maintaining the peak performance, upkeep, and restoration of our multi-spindle screw machine fleet, specifically focusing on ACME and Wickman equipment. This is a hands-on technical position where you will drive production success by executing preventative maintenance, resolving mechanical failures, assisting with machine configurations, and operating equipment as necessary. We are seeking a candidate who possesses exceptional mechanical intuition, sharp troubleshooting capabilities, and a dedicated focus on equipment safety, quality, and operational reliability.

• Execute systematic, preventative, and corrective maintenance on Wickman, ACME, and related multi-spindle screw machines to help boost overall equipment availability and production output.
• Identify and resolve mechanical malfunctions by determining root causes and completing rapid repairs to help reduce production downtime.
• Conduct comprehensive major and minor repair tasks on multi-spindle screw machines and auxiliary production hardware.
• Operate screw machinery as required to meet specific production goals.
• Support the team by assisting with machine setups, changeovers, fine-tuning, and adjustments for diverse production runs.
• Examine equipment for signs of wear, pinpoint potential failure points, and suggest preventative maintenance or component replacements to ensure long-term reliability.
• Maintain precise documentation regarding maintenance logs, repair histories, and parts consumption.
• Contribute to preventative maintenance programs and process improvement efforts to help enhance overall machine reliability.
• Provide support for tooling modifications, equipment upgrades, and various process enhancement initiatives.
• Guide machine operators by sharing best practices for proper equipment care, safe operation, and routine maintenance.
• Ensure all activities are performed in strict accordance with company quality standards and safety protocols.
• Take full ownership of repair and maintenance tasks to ensure all work meets exact specifications and supports the creation of high-quality products.
• Complete additional tasks as assigned by the leadership team.

Qualifications

Education

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.

Work Experience

• At least five years of hands-on experience in the setup, operation, maintenance, and repair of Wickman or ACME Multi-Spindle Screw Machines.
• Proven background in mechanical troubleshooting and equipment repair within a manufacturing setting.
• Prior experience with formal preventative maintenance programs is highly preferred.

Skills

• Demonstrated expertise in mechanical troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair, covering both major and minor work on ACME and Wickman multi-spindle screw machines.
• Solid understanding of gears, cams, center height adjustments, machine tooling setups, and Reed thread roll heads.
• Proficiency in calculating RPMs, feed rates, and the geometry needed for machine setup and machining tasks.
• Capability to maintain and sharpen production tooling, including cut-off blades.
• Ability to interpret and utilize mechanical drawings, blueprints, engineering specifications, and tooling documentation.
• Skilled in the use of precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, and indicators.
• Comprehensive knowledge of machining principles, metals, alloys, and manufacturing workflows.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for effective troubleshooting.
• High level of attention to detail to ensure the delivery of high-quality work.
• Ability to manage priorities, work independently, and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced production environment.
• Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with production team members.
• Prior experience working in a production or manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, climbing, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
• Requirement to stand and/or walk for the duration of the shift.
• Moderate physical exertion, including frequent handling of weights between ten and fifty pounds or continuous handling of lighter items.
• Ability to work in environments that may be noisy, dusty, or hot.
• Must be available and willing to work overtime as dictated by sales requirements.
• Must be flexible to work weekends when necessitated by production demands.
