2nd Shift Supervisor

The 2nd Shift Supervisor plays a critical role in managing daily shop-floor operations during the evening shift. This position ensures that production schedules are met safely, efficiently, and with a high degree of quality. The ideal candidate leads directly from the production floor, builds accountability within the team, and drives continuous improvement across all manufacturing activities.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee all 2nd shift shop-floor production activities to ensure schedules are met safely, efficiently, and with consistent quality.
  • Lead and supervise production teams, providing clear direction, coaching, and support to achieve performance and productivity goals.
  • Promote and enforce safety standards and procedures, maintaining a safety-focused culture on the shop floor.
  • Monitor production processes and workflows, identifying bottlenecks and implementing improvements to optimize efficiency.
  • Ensure adherence to quality processes and specifications, addressing issues promptly to maintain high product standards.
  • Interpret and review blueprints and work orders to organize tasks, allocate resources, and communicate requirements to the team.
  • Make sound decisions and resolve problems under pressure, especially in fast-paced production environments.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including applying lean principles and 5S practices where applicable.
  • Build accountability within the team by setting clear expectations, tracking performance, and providing feedback.
  • Collaborate with other shifts and departments to ensure smooth handoffs, consistent processes, and aligned production goals.
  • Oversee or coordinate the safe operation of forklifts and powered industrial trucks, ensuring compliance with safety guidelines.
  • Utilize ERP systems and Microsoft Excel to track production data, report on performance, and support planning activities.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient work area in line with 5S and other workplace organization standards.
  • Act as a hands-on leader by working directly from the production floor and modeling best practices for the team.
Essential Skills
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or mechanical assembly.
  • 2+ years of supervisory or team lead experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of production processes, safety protocols, and quality procedures.
  • Ability to manage shop-floor teams effectively and coordinate multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and work orders and translate them into clear instructions for the team.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to build, motivate, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication skills to provide clear direction and maintain alignment across the shift.
  • Sound decision-making and problem-solving abilities, particularly under pressure.
  • Detail-oriented and organized approach to managing production activities and documentation.
  • Safety-focused mindset with a commitment to maintaining and improving workplace safety.
  • Hands-on leadership style, comfortable working directly from the production floor.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with pressure vessel or HVAC equipment manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and 5S workplace organization.
  • Forklift certification or experience overseeing powered industrial trucks.
  • Experience using ERP systems to support production planning and reporting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for data tracking, analysis, and reporting.
