Job Description
The Sr. Manager, Programming is responsible for leading the programming and process optimization functions that support automated manufacturing operations. This role ensures manufacturing programs, production data, and fabrication processes are accurate, efficient, and aligned with engineering specifications, quality standards, and production requirements. The position drives continuous improvement initiatives focused on automation, productivity, material utilization, and operational excellence. Working cross-functionally with engineering, production, maintenance, and information systems teams, the Sr.
Manager, Programming supports new product introductions and strategic manufacturing objectives while developing and leading a high-performing technical team.
Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of manufacturing programs supporting automated production equipment and fabrication processes. Establish programming standards, procedures, and best practices to ensure quality, consistency, and operational efficiency. Partner with engineering, production, maintenance, quality, and information systems teams to support manufacturability, process improvements, and new product introductions. Monitor operational performance and identify opportunities to improve throughput, reduce cycle times, increase material utilization, and enhance product quality.
Provide technical leadership and oversight for troubleshooting programming and manufacturing process issues affecting production performance. Coordinate programming resources and priorities to support production schedules, operational objectives, and customer requirements. Develop and maintain documentation, work instructions, revision controls, and process standards related to programming activities. Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on automation, waste reduction, quality enhancement, and operational excellence. Manage departmental goals, budgets, staffing plans, and project timelines to ensure alignment with business objectives.
Hires, trains, coaches, counsels, and evaluates performance of direct reports.
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
Manage programming activities supporting automated manufacturing equipment and fabrication processes. Review and improve manufacturing programs to maximize productivity, quality, and material efficiency. Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure manufacturing programs align with product specifications and design requirements. Support new product introductions through program development, validation, and implementation. Monitor and analyze key performance indicators to identify trends and implement corrective actions.
Lead troubleshooting efforts related to programming, production, and process performance issues. Maintain programming standards, documentation, revision controls, and process records. Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on process optimization and operational efficiency. Coordinate activities with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with production schedules and organizational goals. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related discipline; 8+ years of experience supporting manufacturing programming, fabrication processes, automated production systems, or manufacturing operations, including 3+ years of leadership experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, or manufacturing-related certifications preferred.
Experience supporting automated fabrication, sheet metal manufacturing, or high-volume manufacturing environments preferred.
Advanced knowledge of manufacturing programming, automated production systems, and fabrication processes. Strong understanding of process optimization, workflow analysis, production efficiency, and material utilization practices. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation. Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies, lean manufacturing principles, and quality systems. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop, motivate, and manage technical teams. Knowledge of production planning, scheduling, and enterprise resource planning systems. Proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and performance measurement tools.
