Minimum

Job Requirements

Education:

High school diploma required. Completion of a four-year electrician apprenticeship program combining on-the-job training with at least 144 hours of classroom instruction each year and/or certification from an approved technical institution required. Must hold a current Master Electrician's license.

Experience:

Minimum of ten (10) years continuous practice as a journeyman electrician, with at least five (5) of those years serving as a lead electrician.

Skills:

Thorough knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials common to the electrical trade. Ability to drill holes, set anchors, measure, fabricate, and install conduit; install, connect, and test wiring, outlets, and switches; perform electrical layout; test equipment; replace circuit breakers, ballasts, and switches; repair wiring; bend and cut conduit; and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and building specifications. Ability to use hand and power tools including screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, conduit benders, knives, drills, meters (voltage, ohms, amps), and other power tools.

Strong mathematical and analytical skills necessary to prepare material and labor estimates for job cost reporting. Knowledge of electrical codes, standards, regulations, and blueprint reading required.

SUMMARY

An Electrician Journeyman is a skilled craftsman with extensive experience in the electrical trade. The position requires the ability to work independently and supervise other electricians while maintaining operational inventory of tools, safety equipment, production equipment, and vehicles. The Electrician Journeyman ensures quality control, cost control, and adherence to safe work practices in all assigned projects.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Complete material take‑offs, develop orders, and verify parts received at time of delivery.
  • Provide job site supervision including safety, cleanliness, security, and protection of District property, materials, and equipment.
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical equipment and fixtures.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems to identify hazards, defects, and necessary repairs.
  • Test electrical systems and circuits in wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring as required.
  • Install ground leads and wires, switch boxes, circuit breaker panels, and conduits for wall wiring.
  • Order and maintain inventory of common repair parts.
  • Attend required District training classes.
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions and practices.
  • Identify, document, and notify supervisors of damage, abuse, or negligent use of equipment and tools.
  • Track work orders and communicate status updates to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist in management of electrical warranties.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction and quality control of all completed work.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Electrical Building Code inspections.
ESSENTIAL BEHAVIOR

ATTENDANCE

STATEMENT

Able to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities at least 95% of the time. Must be available to work off‑shift hours and be willing to be on call 24/7 to respond immediately to emergency calls.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work performed in wet, humid, hot, and cold conditions; near moving mechanical parts; in high or enclosed areas. Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals possible. Work may be performed outdoors. Exposure to noise, vibration, and risk of electrical shock.
