Job DescriptionAbout Us: The Sooner Job Challe
NGe (SJC) program is the fifth phase of the National Guard Youth Challenge Program. It is a highly complex operation, which has the responsibility of recruiting, housing, training, mentoring, and providing for the safety, security, and medical well‑being of up to 60 sixteen‑ to twenty‑one‑year‑old “At‑Risk” youth. The Program combines classroom work, technical school training, community service, physical training, job skills and team‑building activities to enhance the life‑skills and employability potential of these youth.
Additional major elements of the program are: career skills, healthy living, drug abuse awareness, leadership/followership, discipline, physical fitness, practical job skills training and character development. This program is a 24‑hour per day, 7‑day per week operation. For additional information about the program go to (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)..
Benefits: This is a full‑time state position that provides a percentage of matching contributions to employees’ retirement plans, 11 holidays, and a minimum of 15 days of annual and sick leave per year. Basic
Purpose:
Case management, career counseling and tracking of student associates and graduates of the Sooner Job Challenge Program.
- Under supervision of the Placement Program Coordinator; this position will be responsible for tracking student associates and graduates during the residential/post residential placement phase.
- During the residential phase, assist student associates with identifying placement goals in the areas of education, military and employment.
- Help student associates partner with a mentor within their chosen vocation.
- Work with student associates and community partners to help students obtain offers of employment within their field of certification.
- Facilitate opportunities for student associates to use their vocational skills in community service projects.
- May be asked to assist with transporting and supervising student associates as needed.
- The post residential phase requires tracking of graduates and mentors for 12 months after graduation in accordance with National Guard Bureau and Sooner Job Challenge guidelines.
- Make monthly contact with all graduates on their assigned caseload via phone, email, text, or social media.
- Process records requests and ensure confidentiality of records.
- Assist Admissions Dept with student associates in‑processing duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
Military background preferred, but not required. Requires good administrative, computer, communication and customer service skills with the ability to compile and produce required reports.
Education and ExperienceHigh School diploma or GED. Strong background working with at‑risk youth, or a combination of education and experience.
Licenses/Certificates requiredNone.
Physical Requirements- Must be able to lift/carry a minimum of 15 pounds.
- Sitting for long periods of time.
- Serves a 12 month trial period.
- Contingent on a favorable NCIC/OSBI background check.
- Contingent on passing pre‑employment drug & alcohol screening.
- Maintain a valid driver license.
- FLSA Non‑Exempt status.
- Tobacco and Vape Free facility.
- Able to work flexible hours including one late night per week.
- T1/CNACI security clearance (eligibility for national security positions shall be granted only to U.S. citizens).
- Contingent on continuous federal funding.
