Job OverviewSubstitute Bus Driver – District Employee assigned to Kansas Campus. Position is Non‑Exempt, 10‑month staff.
Schedule & LocationMonday–Friday; intermittent hours, up to 4 hours per day depending on route assignment.
Routes run between Northeast Technology Center and partner high schools, up to three times per day or as directed by the Campus Administrator.
CompensationHourly wage: $33.80. Position type:
Full‑time.
- Comply with school district policies and be on duty at assigned times.
- Drive a bus and ensure safe transport of high‑school students.
- Perform daily bus inspections (pre‑trip and post‑trip) following state guidelines.
- Maintain order while in transit and keep the bus clean.
- Conduct bus evacuation drills as required by state law.
- Attend scheduled training and meetings; provide information to administration or board of education as requested.
- Perform any other bus or route‑related duties assigned by the Supervisor or Superintendent.
- Current valid Oklahoma School Bus Driving Certificate and commercial driver’s license (air brake endorsement preferred).
- Pass national criminal background check with fingerprints, DOT physical exam, and drug screening.
- Good communication skills and the ability to give and receive instructions.
- Ability to work well without direct supervision and to get along with high‑school students.
- Physical ability to lift over 40 pounds.
- Computer skills preferred.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Must successfully complete a school bus driver course.
- Annual health certificate signed by a physician licensed in Oklahoma proving capability to safely operate a bus.
- Subject to regular random drug/ alcohol/DOT physical testing and post‑accident testing as required by law.
- Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
- Cannot be related to any current school board members within a second degree of affinity or consanguinity.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of English language structure, spelling, and grammar.
- Ability to adapt priorities and schedules as needed.
- Maintain composure and professionalism among varied personalities.
- Attend required safety training quarterly, by video or in person.
- Participate in professional development training opportunities as directed by district policy.
- Attend meetings and provide information to administration or board of education as requested.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and cleaning of the bus.
- Assist students on and off the bus if needed.
- Use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines during administrative duties.
- Job is performed outdoors while operating and inspecting the school bus.
- Must meet all stated physical, mental, and daily activity requirements.
