Transportation Specialist

Supports the Transportation Department through driver assistance, training, recruitment, and operational support. This position assists with route evaluations, driver training, recruitment activities, and specialty transportation functions to ensure safe, efficient, and effective transportation services.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Possess the ability to drive any assigned route.
  • Discuss problems or questions with drivers and provide guidance as needed.
  • Assist with route evaluations and transportation service reviews.
  • Assist with driver training and safety initiatives.
  • Attend job fairs, back-to-school nights, and other events to recruit applicants.
  • Distribute hiring information to generate applicants.
  • Establish contacts and build rapport with organizations and individuals to support recruitment efforts.
  • Work with leadership staff to develop and maintain a comprehensive recruiting plan.
  • Motivate others through positive reinforcement and promote a team-oriented work environment.
  • Enforce all district and Transportation Department policies and procedures.
  • Attend all required meetings and training sessions.
  • Create and maintain analytical reports as needed.
  • Work in specialty positions when required, including seat repair, training, DVR maintenance, and call center support.
  • Assist with emergency bus evacuations when necessary.
  • Assist with the delivery of transportation service evaluations to schools.
  • Attend training classes as required.
  • Perform any and all duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation or designee.

Attendance Statement:

Able to be in attendance for assigned work schedule with a minimum of 95% attendance.

Environmental Conditions:

Exposure to extremes of heat and cold. Expected to safely operate assigned vehicles in all weather conditions and on varying road surfaces.

Physical Standards:

Walking as required to access equipment and perform responsibilities. Sitting for extended periods during assigned routes. Use of hands and arms for driving, shifting, and operating bus doors. Climbing and descending bus stairs. Talking and hearing to communicate job-related duties. Sense of smell. Close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must pass a DOT-qualified physical.
