Driver Trainer

Oversees and provides the training of all new bus drivers. Responsible for helping Managers with ongoing staff development of all drivers. Maintains all records required by the state and federal DOTs.

Implements and directs the Transportation Department Safety Program, including provision of ongoing driver and safety training, driver retraining, conducts driver conferences related to safe driving issues. Recruits and trains qualified school bus drivers and teaches Oklahoma Department of Education Certification classes for driver trainees. Works with Routing Coordinator to insure safe bus stops and conducts periodic driver surveillance to insure student safety.

Responsible for Driver Safety Program. Abides by district safety standards and procedures. Performs duties and responsibilities as requested by the Executive Director of Transportation or designee.

Ability to use sound judgment in any situation. Ability to deal successfully and rapidly with changes in assignments and properly respond to applicable correspondence/communication received. Ability to project a professional company image through in-person, phone, and electronic interaction. Ability to build and foster harmonious rapport and work cooperatively with District staff and the public while achieving the objectives and goals of the position.

Ability to handle problematic and/or difficult situations professionally by communicating with the appropriate person.

Able to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities with 95% attendance. Exposure to extremes of heat and cold. Possible exposure to bodily fluids.

Ability to manipulate objects of up to 50 lbs for 20 feet is required. Walking as required to access equipment and perform responsibilities. Sitting for length of assigned route. Use of hands and arms to assist with wheelchairs, setting brakes, foot pedals, etc. Climbing and descending bus steps. Stooping, kneeling, and crouching as required for student care. Talking and hearing as to communicate concerning job-related duties as assigned.

Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) with or without correction. Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more) with or without correction. Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors). Peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must pass DOT physical and Drug Screening.
