The Staff Accountant will support the Accounting and Finance team with day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance activities. This role is ideal for an accountant with a strong foundation in general ledger accounting who thrives in a mission-driven environment and is comfortable working with government-funded or regulated programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Support month-end and year-end close, including journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, and variance analysis
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger, balance sheet, and bank accounts
- Assist with budget tracking, grant compliance, and cost allocations
- Prepare financial schedules and supporting documentation for audits and funder reviews
- Process and review accounts payable and invoicing, ensuring accuracy and proper coding
- Collaborate with program and operations teams to ensure accurate financial reporting
- Assist with ad-hoc financial analysis and special projects as needed
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2+ years of accounting experience (nonprofit or government-funded environment preferred)
- Strong understanding of GAAP, reconciliations, and journal entries
- MIP Fund Accounting experience is a strong plus
- Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines
- Experience working with grants, public funding, or regulated programs
- Exposure to audits and compliance reporting
- Desire to work in a mission-focused, community-oriented organization
