Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations for a property protection organization in New York. This Contract position will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, handling core accounting activities, and supporting timely reporting. The ideal candidate is comfortable working across payables, receivables, reconciliations, and journal entry preparation while communicating effectively with vendors and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

- Manage daily accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, ensuring transactions are processed accurately and on schedule.

- Prepare, review, and post journal entries to maintain complete and accurate financial records throughout the month.

- Reconcile bank accounts and investigate discrepancies to support clean and reliable account balances.

- Maintain the general ledger by recording financial activity and assisting with month-end close tasks.

- Communicate with vendors to resolve billing questions, payment issues, and account discrepancies clearly and professionally.

- Use Microsoft Excel to analyze financial data, organize schedules, and support accounting reporting needs.

- Assist with sales tax and corporate tax-related documentation, filings, or supporting schedules as needed.

- Work within Quick Books Desktop and other accounting platforms to enter, review, and track financial information. Requirements - Experience in a Staff Accountant or similar accounting role with hands-on responsibility for AP, AR, and reconciliations.

- Strong knowledge of journal entries, general ledger activity, and month-end accounting processes.

- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to use formulas for analysis and reporting.

- Proficiency with Quick Books, with Quick Books Desktop experience strongly preferred.

- Familiarity with sales tax, corporate tax, and related accounting support tasks.

- Ability to communicate clearly with vendors and internal contacts regarding financial matters.

- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple accounting priorities in a Contract position.
