About Our Client

Our client is a well-established and highly respected painting subcontractor serving the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets. For decades, they have built a strong reputation delivering high-quality painting and coating services for commercial, multifamily residential, mixed-use, institutional, healthcare, hospitality, and specialty construction projects throughout the Tri-State area.

Due to continued growth and a strong backlog of work, they are actively seeking an experienced Painting Estimator to join their team in Bronx, NY.

Position Overview

The Painting Estimator will play a critical role in the company's preconstruction and business development efforts by preparing accurate and competitive estimates for commercial and multifamily residential painting projects. This individual will be responsible for analyzing project documents, performing detailed quantity takeoffs, soliciting vendor and subcontractor pricing, preparing comprehensive bid proposals, and supporting project turnover activities.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical estimating skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, general contractors, vendors, field personnel, and senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for commercial and multifamily residential painting projects.
  • Review drawings, specifications, bid instructions, contracts, and project documentation to determine project scope and requirements.
  • Perform comprehensive quantity takeoffs and material calculations.
  • Solicit and evaluate pricing from suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs as required.
  • Analyze labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor costs to develop competitive bid proposals.
  • Identify scope gaps, exclusions, risks, and potential cost exposures.
  • Monitor and track plan revisions, addenda, RFIs, and scope changes throughout the bidding process.
  • Develop value-engineering alternatives and cost-saving recommendations when appropriate.
  • Prepare and submit complete bid packages within established deadlines.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Operations teams during project handoff and closeout activities.
  • Assist with material procurement and project support activities as needed.
  • Maintain estimating databases, historical cost information, and bid records.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience estimating painting projects for commercial and/or multifamily residential construction.
  • Strong knowledge of painting systems, coatings, surface preparation methods, materials, labor productivity, and construction sequencing.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, contracts, and bid documents.
  • Experience managing the complete estimating process from bid invitation through proposal submission.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Professional presentation and client-facing communication skills.

Preferred Technical Skills

  • Experience with construction estimating and project management software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with CAD drawings and digital takeoff software.
  • Knowledge of scheduling, budgeting, job costing, procurement, and equipment rental negotiations.
  • Experience working with General Contractors, Developers, Property Owners, and Construction Managers throughout the Tri-State market.
