Position: Health Educator - 5043

Across our 60+ locations, we provide programs in a variety of service areas, including workforce development, children, youth, families, seniors and homeless prevention.

The Bronx Works Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) program provides health education to teens and adolescents in the Bronx. The program's goal is to decrease the number of adolescent pregnancies and STI transmission through sexual risk reduction education. This program offers the MAD (Making A Difference) curriculum and adult supervised activities targeting middle-school age youth (10-13 years old years old). In addition, there are parenting education classes for parents, guardians, and caregivers.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide direct high-quality training and service provision to adolescent youth.
  • Use evidence-based models, engage adolescent youth population in screening and assessing the educational needs particular to this age group.
  • Perform, Plan, and Implement community outreach and activities which include:
  • Promote program services to the community and adolescent youth.
  • Deliver judgement free training classestoadolescent youth using the evidence-based pregnancy prevention models.
  • Deliver andfacilitateeducational workshops related to topics promoting and encouraging positive youth development.
  • Participate in community outreach events.
  • Identifying and screening candidates for Component 2 (Volunteer Mentoring) of the SRAE program.
  • Delivering judgement-free workshops to parents, guardians, and caregivers of children enrolled in the SRAE program.
  • Provideassistanceand/ or referrals for youth to obtain comprehensive family planning services, health servicesor other support services as identified.
  • Other work as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields of study:
    Public Health,Community Health,Health Promotion,Health Educationor ahealth related field.
  • CHES®/ MCHES® certification preferred.
  • Experience working withadolescentyouth population is necessary.
  • Strong writing and public speaking skillsisessential.
  • Follow-up and computer experience is required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanishproficiencyis preferred.
  • Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required. Authorization to work in the United States for any employer is mandatory.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit forlong periodsof time.
  • Ability to climb five flights of stairs, ifrequiredto conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.
  • Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
  • Ability to travelinthe boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
  • Ability totravel fora minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, ifrequiredto conduct field
    work.
