Assistant Professor /Associate Professor - Early Childhood and Childhood Education (ECCE) FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT The Department of Early Childhood and Childhood Education (ECCE) in the School of Education at Lehman College, City University of New York (Bronx, New York City) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in literacies with a focus on how technology and digital literacies play a role in children's development, and/or a related field.

The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching, service, advocacy, and leadership in childhood education, as well as digital literacies development, to engage and inspire our economically, culturally, and linguistically diverse candidates, colleagues, and kindergarten-6th grade partnership schools. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate knowledge and skills for teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses (on campus and online) in multiple modalities within the child development age range, literacies development and/or the humanities.

The successful candidate will also be expected to advise students, engage in and maintain an active program of research, scholarly work (including professional publications, presentations, grantsmanship), and service. This position reports directly to the chairperson of Early Childhood and Childhood Education (ECCE). This is not a remote position. While some online teaching or remote administrative might be allowed, the role requires consistent on-campus engagement.

A federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution, Lehman serves a diverse population of more than 14,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

The School of Education (SOE) is one of the six schools within Lehman College. The SOE reflects the mission of the college in serving the Bronx, New York City, and surrounding region as an intellectual, economic, and cultural center. As the only public higher education school of education in the Bronx, SOE embraces a vision of preparing future educators to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse student population who themselves represent a racial, ethnic, cultural, and linguistic spectrum that remains one of the strengths of our state and community.

SOE is organized in three departments:
Early Childhood and Childhood Education;
Counseling, Leadership, Literacy, and Special Education (CLLSE); and Middle and High School Education. SOE offers initial preparation advanced preparation programs in Literacy Studies, Mental Health and Educational Leadership, including a doctorate in Organizational Leadership. SOE houses several institutes and centers to advance educator preparation, professional development, and school-community engagement. ECCE houses outstanding and nationally accredited graduate degree programs, with each culminating in a master's degree, or an advanced certificate, and most leading to New York State Certification.

It also offers an Infant/Toddler certificate and the Advanced Bilingual Extension. Our faculty are committed to excellence in scholarship and teaching and are recognized for their work with Bronx and urban schools, districts, nonprofits, and other community organizations, and strive to provide transformational learning experiences for our graduate students. They are experienced in meeting the needs of adult learners and are dedicated to mentoring, motivating, and supporting our graduate students through consistent advisement, engaging instruction, continuous program improvement, and career placement.

Position Responsibilities In a spirit of collegiality and professionalism, faculty are expected to foster a respectful, collaborative, and inclusive environment, upholding high ethical standards in teaching, research, and service. They are expected to work cooperatively toward the growth and development of their department and support student success.

Responsibilities include:

Maintaining a teaching load of 18 credits per 9-month academic year. Teaching assignments include undergraduate and graduate-level courses in child development, pedagogical foundations, as well as teaching methods across the humanities delivered on campus and online across multiple instructional modalities within the Childhood Education curriculum. The successful candidate will maintain an active research agenda that includes professional scholarship, presentations and grantsmanship The successful candidate will share responsibility for continuous program improvement and program accreditation (including AAQEP compliance), academic advisement, and department assignments, including administrative duties, program and course development.
