JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/ Objective East Side House (ESH) is a community resource in the Bronx and Northern Manhattan. We believe education is the key that enables all people to create economic and civic opportunities for themselves, their families, and their community. ESH's After School Program with our mission by providing high quality programs and services within community centers and school partnerships.

East Side House is looking for a highly motivated, organized, and supportive individual to work in our Youth After-School Program, which focuses on literacy for students in grades 1 through 5 from high-poverty communities in the Bronx, NY. The primary responsibility of the Group Leader is to design and lead enrichment activities for these students. We are seeking creative professionals with experience working with youth in the following areas (but not limited to): academic tutoring and homework help, social-emotional support, science, music, visual arts, media technology, dance, sports and recreation, health awareness, and community leadership.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the After School Program Director, the Group Leader, After School Program
- Urban Scholars, will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Create and carry out fun educational, recreational, leadership, community service, and arts activities for elementary school children. Document your successes along the way.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures proactively, prioritizing the safety and care of children.
  • Write lesson plans weeks in advance. Prepare for lessons the day before or during prep before program starts for the day.
  • Build positive relationships with each after-school participant in your care and encourage positive connections among participants. Actively engage with children at all times to support their positive development individually and as a group.
  • Conduct yourself professionally and represent the agency positively when interacting with school staff, parents, children, and others in your role.
  • Effectively manage your assigned group and maintain enforcement of a progressive discipline policy.
  • Record and submit daily attendance and any other required documents to the Director.
  • Daily inspect all facilities, equipment, and supplies to ensure everything is accounted for and stored properly at the end of each day.
  • Collaborate with team members and provide support to any specialist implementing activities.
  • Actively participate in all aspects of staff or member development, including bi-weekly supervision, team meetings, pre-service training, and at least 15 additional hours of training throughout the school year.
  • Ensure compliance with ESH, DOE, and DOH regulations and policies.
  • Coordinate the daily program schedule, calendar, and staff coverage.
  • Strategize, design, and implement outreach efforts to maintain participant enrollment numbers.
  • Enter, record, and maintain student attendance data in the reporting system.
  • Adhere to, oversee, and document the agency's emergency instructions and plan.
  • Must wear a uniform daily to promote unity and recognition of East Side House (shirts and sweaters will be provided).
