Position Summary:
The Education Content Specialist is responsible for the selection, development, and pedagogical quality of program content across all required content areas. This role ensures high-quality implementation of educational and enrichment activities by providing content oversight, instructional coaching and professional development to frontline direct service staff (Group Leaders).
Working in close partnership with the Site Program Director, who maintains administrative and operational authority, the Education Content Specialist ensures that all program activities meet COMPASS and Future Builders standards and support youth engagement, learning, and development.
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
Program Quality & Content Fidelity
- Oversee the selection, customization, and implementation of curriculum across all core content areas to ensure alignment with COMPASS standards and Project-Based Learning methodologies.
- Conduct regular, structured observations of educational activities to assess content delivery, instructional quality, and student engagement.
- Utilize data and observation rubrics to diagnose implementation gaps, distinguish between content comprehension challenges and operational execution issues.
Staff Capacity Building & Coaching
- Provide continuous support, feedback and professional development to a team of on-site Group Leaders and Education Coaches to strengthen lesson and activity delivery.
- Model effective youth development practices, facilitation techniques, and behavior management strategies for frontline staff.
- Design and lead targeted training sessions and workshops during staff onboarding and through the program cycle based on identified instructional needs.
Matrixed Collaboration & Accountability
- Partner closely with the site Program Director to establish a shared performance metrics for frontline staff, clearly separating content execution (Specialist-led) from operational compliance (Director-led).
- Co-design and participate in weekly alignment meetings with the Program Director to proactively address implementation gaps, coordinate staff support, and align on performance trends.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the centralized Education/ Capacity building department and site-based Program operations to ensure unified organizational messaging and consistency in program standards.
Work Schedule Requirements
- Support up to 4 COMPASS programs concurrently.
- Minimum of nine (9) hours of service per week for each assigned program.
- Provide support and development to a team of on-site Group Leaders and Education Coaches.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters Degree in Education, Youth Development, or related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in instructional coaching, curriculum development, or managing educational programs, preferably in an out-of-school time (OST) or community-based setting.
- Proven ability to manage through influence and navigate a matrixed organizational structure successfully.
- Strong relational and communication skills, with a track record of building trust and driving accountability across cross-functional teams.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Youth Development, or a related field required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a supervisory or oversight role, including direct experience in program content development, staff supervision, training, and coaching.
- Demonstrated expertise in youth development, curriculum design, and activity-based learning.
- Strong organizational and instructional leadership skills.
- Ability to assess, guide, and elevate staff instructional performance

Physical and Administrative Conditions
- Onsite presence during assigned program hours.
- Must complete background checks and meet all relevant licensing and clearance requirements.
- Occasional evening or weekend availability as required by program operations.
