Preschool Lead Teacher/Ed Director Designee

A House on Beekman provides high-quality early childhood programming for children in the South Bronx, preparing children for a strong and successful academic journey. Lead teachers will ensure that exceptional instruction and communication with families is happening in each classroom to reach our mission.

The Education Director designee will ensure that all teachers are trained and prepared to lead using developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and emotionally responsive practices. The designee will also step in for the Ed Director if an absence occurs when an agency holds a site visit.

Experience implementing NY State and DOE-approved curriculum.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with culturally, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse groups of stakeholders (staff, students, parents).

Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of A House on Beekman.

Experience teaching general education and individuals with learning challenges and special needs within an inclusive classroom.

Outstanding organizational skills.

Ability to handle many responsibilities simultaneously.

Ability to write age-appropriate and differentiated lesson plans.

Ability to document and display students' classroom experiences and growth.

Ability to promptly handle unanticipated situations or emergencies as they arise.

Excellent communication skills.

Ensure that your classroom setting and routines are providing high-quality instruction that meets DOE/DOHMH requirements.

Adhere to A House on Beekman's philosophy of education.

Assist with teacher training and preparation in developmentally appropriate curriculum and trauma-informed, emotionally responsive practices.

Serve as a model teacher to other early childhood staff.

In the absence of the Education Director, step in during agency site visits.

Maintain a nurturing learning environment while always ensuring children's safety and welfare.

Document student growth according to DOE and AHOB requirements.

Collaborate with and mentor assistant teachers in the development of classroom projects and lesson plans.

Collaborate with other preschool lead teachers and AHOB staff.

Build and maintain relationships with students and their families.

Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress.

Attend all professional development workshops and trainings.

Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education OR Bachelor's Degree in a related field with a state-approved study plan toward Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education

NYSED Certification in Birth-2nd grade OR plan for certification within 3 years of hire date

At least two years of experience working with children aged 0-5 years old

• Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education

• Spanish-speaking

• CPR/First Aid Certification preferred

Recommended salary range based on nonprofit preschool leadership responsibilities:

• $55,000 – $65,000 annually, based on education, experience, qualifications, and regulatory eligibility
