The role supports a school culture grounded in accountability, belonging, positive relationships, strong attendance, student engagement, and excellence.

This position requires a proactive, relationship-driven leader who is comfortable working directly with adolescents, addressing challenging situations, coaching students through conflict, and maintaining clear expectations and appropriate boundaries. The Assistant Dean of Culture reinforces school wide norms and procedures, supports progressive and restorative discipline, responds to student and staff concerns, and uses data to identify student needs and strengthen culture systems.

Reporting to the Dean of Student Culture and/or School Leadership, this full-time, 10-month position works closely with teachers, counselors, families, students, instructional leaders, student-support teams, school safety personnel, and community partners. The Assistant Dean of Culture is expected to model EMNRBS values, communicate consistently, follow through on commitments, and help ensure that adults operate from a common set of expectations.

  • Maintain a highly visible and consistent presence throughout the school day, including arrival, transitions, hallways, lunch, dismissal, assemblies, school events, and other student activities.
  • Reinforce school wide expectations, norms, procedures, and culture systems while building authentic relationships with students and maintaining clear authority, boundaries, and high expectations.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to behavioral concerns; develop and administer disciplinary procedures in accordance with school policies and applicable requirements; and ensure that consequences are consistent, fair, educational, and aligned with established guidelines.
  • Receive referrals and confer with students, families, teachers, support staff, community agencies, and, when appropriate, law enforcement to address student concerns, conflicts, complaints, and safety-related matters.
  • Conduct student conferences, restorative conversations, conflict-resolution interventions, and re-entry conversations that help students understand the impact of their behavior, ability to take responsibility, repair relationships, and develop stronger communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Document behavioral incidents and interventions accurately and in a timely manner; monitor patterns in referrals, suspensions, removals, repeated incidents, and restorative interventions; and identify students who may require additional support.
  • Monitor daily attendance and lateness data; identify attendance concerns; conduct student and family conferences; coordinate attendance improvement plans; and recognize improved attendance and punctuality.
  • Collaborate with counselors, social-emotional support staff, teachers, special education staff, instructional leaders, and families to develop appropriate interventions, individualized behavior supports, and student programming based on identified needs.
  • Communicate clear and timely school information to students, staff, and families regarding behavior, attendance, progress, expectations, and other matters that affect student success.
  • Promote student leadership, teamwork, discipline, perseverance, responsibility, school pride, and positive participation in clubs, school wide initiatives, athletics, and other community-building opportunities.
  • Support student recognition programs that celebrate growth, leadership, attendance, academics, citizenship, school involvement, and other positive contributions to the school community.
  • Supervise students on campus and support orderly student movement, arrival, dismissal, lunch periods, passing periods, events, emergency procedures, drills, crisis response, and school safety protocols.
  • Use attendance, behavior, participation, family-contact, restorative-practice, and school-climate data to identify trends, evaluate the effectiveness of culture initiatives, and support action planning with the Dean of Student Culture and School Leadership.
