Bronxworks Content/Education Specialist

Bronx Works helps individuals and families improve their economic and social well-being. From toddlers to seniors, we feed, shelter, teach, and support our neighbors to build a stronger community. Across our 60+ locations, we provide programs in a variety of service areas, including workforce development, children, youth, families, seniors and homeless prevention.

At least one part-time Content/Education Specialist to select, develop and manage program content via lesson plans in all the Required Content Areas such as physical activity, performing arts, STEM, creative arts, or social emotional learning. In collaboration with Program Director/Coordinator, they will work with Activity Specialists to develop and implement relevant program components. The Content/Education Specialist must have:

• A master's degree preferred, or a bachelor's degree with at least one year of education/youth development experience.
• Experience with or knowledge of best practices in youth development preferred. developing lesson plans for youth development programs
• Works easily with children in grades K-5 and interacts well with others.
• Proficiency in modern business communications, including personal computers, electronic mail, voicemail, facsimile, and copier equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support program staff through observation, effective supervision, coaching, training, and professional development to ensure program quality.
• Hold weekly/monthly individual meetings with Counselors to identify individual and group educational needs, review lessons, assess classroom environment, and plan events.
• Conduct formal and informal observations of group activities, lessons, and classroom environment on a weekly basis.
• Develop program themes. Provide resources, lessons, and materials to infuse them into programming.

Physical

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ability to travel in the boroughs of NYC and its adjacent counties.
• Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to ten pounds.
• Ability to speak clearly.
• Ability to reach by extending hand(s) and/or arm(s) in any direction.
• Ability to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm, for example, using a keyboard or phone.
• Ability to stand, walk or sit for long periods of time.
• Ability to travel for a minimum of one mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather.
• Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
• Ability to climb five flights of stairs.
