* NYC Parks is a design award-winning city agency that builds and cares for public spaces for New Yorkers to connect, play and enjoy. NYC Parks manages more than 30,000 acres or 14% of the city's land, encompassing more than 5,000 individual properties. Our diverse set of assets includes recreational facilities, nature centers, historic buildings and structures, golf courses, athletic fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, public pools, public restroom buildings, retaining walls and nearly 14 miles of beaches.
Major Responsibilities - Under general supervision, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, supervise Bronx River Conservation Crew, a field-based conservation and river management team.
- Monitor and manage performance and schedule of full-time crew members, seasonal crew aides, apprentices and interns. Track staff time and activities, interview applicants and develop assessment materials, plan crew training and evaluate performance.
- Develop maps and planting plans for projects involving community partners and volunteers from the surrounding community. Submit information for grant reports and other monitoring reports.
- Attend staff and safety meetings and create procedures and signage to implement recommendations.
- Maintain an inventory of tools and equipment; recommend and handle purchases.
- Support and lead education and outreach activities to involve volunteers, youth and the general public in activities focused around the Bronx River and throughout District 14.
- Coordinate with Administrator on community engagement plan to reach underserved populations of the community and help coordinate Special Events.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or 2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or 3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above.
However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
1. Ecological and river management experience.
2. Experience supervising conservation work.
3. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
4. Proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Word and Excel.
5. Valid New York State driver license.

Residency RequirementResidency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
