Director of Impact & Programs

Riverdale Y is a community and cultural center located in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx. We provide educational, recreational, cultural, and wellness programming for children and adults of all ages. The Director of Impact & Programs is a leader responsible for the strategic oversight, operational excellence, and measurable impact of Riverdale Y's mission-driven programs. Reporting to the Chief Program Officer, this position provides leadership to a diverse portfolio of community-based services including Older Adults & our NORC program (Naturally Occurring Retirement Community), as well other grant-funded or mission-aligned programs.

The Director partners with department leaders to ensure exceptional participant experiences, financial sustainability, staff development, program innovation, and measurable community impact while advancing Riverdale Y's mission and strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and operational oversight for all mission-driven program departments.
  • Translate organizational strategic priorities into departmental goals and measurable outcomes.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement across all program areas.
  • Serve as a member of the leadership team.
  • Develop and implement annual work plans, goals, and performance measures.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and participant outcomes to ensure community needs are met.
  • Oversee daily operations and ensure high-quality services, programs, and participant experiences.
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Older Adult Advisory Council and support participant engagement initiatives.
Program Quality & Impact
  • Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality, mission-centered programming.
  • Establish performance metrics and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Monitor participant satisfaction and implement continuous quality improvements.
  • Promote data-informed decision making and outcome measurement.
  • Ensure programs reflect best practices and community needs.
Staff Leadership
  • Directly supervise staff of New Beginnings (six direct reports), our NORC program, as well other directors in mission aligned positions. Staff includes both Union and non-Union staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and inclusion.
  • Support succession planning and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with agency policies and collective bargaining agreements where applicable.
Financial Management
  • Oversee departmental budgets totaling multiple program areas.
  • Monitor revenue and expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Partner with department leaders to achieve financial goals.
  • Identify opportunities for earned revenue growth and program sustainability.
  • Assist with annual budget development and forecasting.
  • Support grant implementation and stewardship.
Community Engagement
  • Build strong partnerships with schools, government agencies, healthcare providers, synagogues, community organizations, and funders.
  • Represent Riverdale Y throughout the community.
  • Support fundraising initiatives, donor cultivation, and special events.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to increase awareness and participation.
Compliance & Operations
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, city, licensing, and funding requirements.
  • Oversee reporting, audits, inspections, and risk management.
  • Ensure participant safety and operational excellence across all departments.
  • Develop policies and procedures that support consistent, high-quality operations.
Organizational Leadership
  • Collaborate closely with the Chief Program Officer on strategic planning and organizational initiatives.
  • Lead cross-functional projects that improve organizational effectiveness.
  • Champion Riverdale Y's mission, values, and culture.
  • Support agency-wide initiatives and organizational change management.
  • Participate in Board committee meetings and provide reports as needed.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Education, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Seven to ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience in nonprofit management, community services, education, healthcare, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience working with older adults and developing or overseeing aging services programs.
  • Minimum of five years supervising multiple managers or department leaders.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex budgets and multiple program areas.
  • Experience leading organizational change and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strong financial, operational, and strategic planning skills.
  • Exceptional leadership, coaching, and team development abilities.
  • Experience with budgeting, program management, reporting, and compliance oversight.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
