JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

East Side House (ESH) partners with NYC schools to deliver Learning to Work (LTW) AND Community School programs that help students overcome barriers, stay engaged in school, and prepare for postsecondary and career success.

Reporting to the Department Director, the Program Director is responsible for the overall management development, and delivery of LTW and Community Schools services. This includes oversight of daily operations, staff supervision, program compliance, and building strong partnerships with school leadership and community stakeholders.

The Program Director leads a team Advisors and support staff to ensure students receive targeted academic support, social-emotional learning opportunities, career readiness programming, and access to internships and employment pathways. This role manages program planning, performance tracking, and data reporting to meet contractual goals, while fostering a positive, inclusive, and achievement-focused school culture.

The Program Director works closely with school administrators, ESH departments, and external partners to ensure all services are aligned with students needs, DOE and contractual standards, and ESH'S mission to expand opportunities for youth and families.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the program to ensure smooth and effective service delivery across academic, social-emotional, and postsecondary supports.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with school leadership, DOE staff, funders, community-based organizations, and key partners.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory, and internal requirements; maintain accurate and organized records and documentation.
  • Monitor key program functions including student recruitment, enrollment, assessment, attendance, outreach, and follow-up.
  • Coordinate the planning and execution of student-focused initiatives, including events, performances, field trips, family engagement activities, and workshops.
  • Analyze program effectiveness and implement continuous improvement strategies to strengthen service delivery and student outcomes.
  • Provide consistent, high-quality supervision to program staff through regular team meetings, one-on-one check-ins, coaching, and performance reviews.
  • Ensure staff adhere to expectations around planning, scheduling, budget awareness, data entry, and program implementation.
  • Lead staff onboarding and offboarding processes; communicate hiring needs to the Department Director as necessary.
  • Foster a supportive and accountable team culture grounded in youth development, equity, and results-driven practice.
  • Prepare and submit qualitative and quantitative reports on program progress, including key performance indicators such as attendance, academic progress, and postsecondary milestones.
  • Provide timely and accurate program data for internal performance tracking and reporting to funders.
  • Monitor and manage the non-personnel budget, submitting expenditures and purchase requests in alignment with finance protocols.
  • Participate actively in school and community-based meetings, cross-site collaboration efforts, and agency-wide trainings and development opportunities.
  • Meet regularly with the Department Director to review program successes, challenges, and strategic adjustments.
  • Support civic engagement, family partnerships, and broader community-building activities as part of East Side House's mission and initiatives.
  • Availability for occasional evening or weekend hours to support events, programming, or deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
