Description:
Department: PCU. Unit has 36 beds. Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4. Common diagnoses include post-ICU, post-shock, post-stroke, pneumonia, CHF, and respiratory failure.
Responsibilities include:
Monitoring vitals, Providing A.M./P.M. care, Restocking supplies, Running errands, Conducting EKGs, Managing outputs and bladder scanning, Performing blood glucose checks. Required to manage respiratory equipment such as CPAP, BiPAP, and ventilators. Breathing treatments will be administered with nurse assistance. Centralized tele monitor available 24/7. Nurses must be able to read and interpret telemetry. Schedule consists of 12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM.
Vacation requests should be made in advance. Flexibility is required to cover permanent staffing gaps. Weekend requirements are at least every other weekend. May be included in holiday rotation. Floating to ICU, CCU, and other medical-surgical areas may be required. Scrub color is royal blue. Two-day unit-specific orientation with a preceptor is provided.
