Managerial Hire In Nursing Administration

Rotating Shifts.

Purpose of Position:
Under general supervision, provides assistance in the administration and supervision of confidential activities within a group of services in the health care setting. Responsible for several departments and manages the technical, managerial, ancillary, clerical and support staff of these departments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directs and supervises staff and support departments, coordinates special services across activities of related support and professional service departments.
  • Prepares operating plans and drafts of plans, policies, programs and procedures. Participates in the implementation of improved systems and procedures, monitors of systems, and in the control and audit programs.
  • Makes studies of adequacy and effectiveness of general administrative and support services and makes recommendations.
  • Prepares data for budget preparation, operating and statistical reports, analysis and makes recommendations.
  • Monitors requisitioning of supplies and equipment. Requisition s materials and supplies for administrative, professional and support service activities.
  • Prepares studies on patient care standards, conducts analysis and prepares recommendations.
  • Attends staff meetings, conferences and consults with other departments.
  • May represent health care setting administration in relevant functions and programs.
  • Assists in grant proposal writing and in submitting revenue and expenditure reports for special funded programs.
  • Performs other related duties, as directed.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and 2. Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing Administration or a related nursing discipline; and three (3) years of satisfactory nursing experience, two (2) years of which must have been in a responsible administrative or supervisory capacity, which may include managing a specific department or nursing unit within a hospital, overseeing patient care, staff management and the day-to-day operations of the department, as well as relevant clinical nursing experience in the area of nursing practice assigned;

or 3. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing; and four (4) years of satisfactory nursing experience, three (3) years of which must have been in a responsible administrative or supervisory capacity described in 2 above. 4. May require Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) depending on assignment/health care setting. If required, BLS must be obtained within sixty (60) calendar days of appointment to the title and maintained for the duration of the assignment.
