The EHS Specialist supports the EHS Manager in the development, implementation, and administration of environmental, health, and safety programs. This position assists with regulatory compliance, safety training, workplace inspections, incident investigations, hazard identification, and maintaining required documentation. The EHS Specialist will help promote a strong safety culture, reduce preventable incidents and related costs, and support a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.

Requirements We are searching for a candidate with:

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred
  • Valid New York State Driver's License
  • OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour certification preferred
  • OSHA Outreach Trainer certification or other relevant safety certification is a plus

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, New York State Department of Labor, and other applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations
  • Ability to support workplace inspections, hazard assessments, incident investigations, and corrective action follow-up
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to develop and deliver safety training in both classroom and workplace settings
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills, including the ability to maintain accurate safety documentation and reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and apply sound judgment and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to identify workplace hazards and recommend practical corrective and preventive measures

Duties and Responsibilities A typical day may include:

  • Assists with reviewing, updating, and implementing environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Supports efforts to ensure plant compliance with OSHA, NYSDOL, FNDY, NYCDEP, and other applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Assists with the administration of workers' compensation claims, including incident investigations, documentation, reporting, and maintaining the OSHA 300, 301, and 300A records.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact for employees regarding work-related injuries and ensures incidents are promptly reported to the EHS Manager and other appropriate parties.
  • Conducts routine safety inspections and workplace audits to identify potential hazards, document findings, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Performs ergonomic assessments and recommends workplace modifications as needed.
  • Identifies safety concerns and coordinates or conducts appropriate training and corrective action follow-up.
  • Conducts the safety portion of new employee orientation.
  • Maintains accurate files and records related to safety training, inspections, incidents, corrective actions, certifications, and policy violations.
  • Coordinates continuing education, monitors compliance, and maintains training records for safety programs, including:
  • Lockout/tagout
  • Forklift certification
  • Hazard communication and Right-to-Know requirements
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Hearing conservation and testing
  • Respiratory protection and fit testing
  • Footwear Program
  • Prescription Eyewear Program
  • Emergency evacuation procedures
