Role Summary :
The Residential Aide (Tier
2) will be responsible for promoting the mission and values of the organization by assisting clients and monitoring their safety and well-being. They will also help ensure client and staff compliance with program rules, policies, and procedures, and ensure the facility represents a secure and respectful living and working environment.

Primary Job Responsibilities/Duties :

The job duties of the Residential Aide (Tier
2) include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • Remaining diligent and alert while monitoring facility residents and the premises to ensure the security and safety of all.
  • Enforcing shelter policies while following staff policies and procedures.
  • Performing general administrative functions such as adding detailed notes in communication logs, documenting incidents, and notating resident whereabouts, behaviors and engagement
  • Providing compassionate assistance to residents, addressing their questions, and helping to promptly resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Monitoring hallways, stairwells, parking lots, sidewalks, cafeterias, and other common areas on a regular basis and/or as needed.
  • Strictly adhering to applicable safety, health, fire hazard, and reporting guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Informing appropriate supervisory and maintenance personnel of any immediate safety concerns.
  • Interacting with onsite security personnel to promote the safety and well-being of staff and residents.
  • Helping empty, clean and prepare residential units or living areas for new residents ( e.g., bag and tag personal property).

Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to walk, stand, kneel, crouch, and bend over.
  • Ability to lift, reach, and handle objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to travel to different locations within New York City as needed.

Work Environment / Schedule Requirements :

  • May be required to work past the end of one's scheduled shift if not relieved by another staff member or expressly authorized to leave by a supervisor.
  • Shifts typically last from 12 a.m. to 8 a.m., 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or 4 p.m. to 12 a.m.
  • May at times be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays based on organizational needs, deadlines, or events.

Qualifications :

  • At least one (1) year of experience as a Residential Aide and a High School Diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • The following must be obtained by the end of your initial probation:
    • Certificate of Fitness for Fire Guard for Shelters ("F-02") or Certificate of Fitness for Coordinator of Fire Safety and Alarm Systems in Homeless Shelters ("F-80").
    • Food Protection Certificate (also known as a Food Handler's Certificate) from the NYC Health Academy.
    • First-Aid & Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation ("CPR") Certification.
  • New York State Security Guard License is preferred.
  • Prior experience working in a residential facility is preferred.
  • Multilingualism is preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Ability to assess emergency situations and respond effectively.
  • Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand English for administrative purposes.
  • Must pass drug screening test to be appointed.
  • This position may be subject to a series of checks before and/or after appointment.
