Tractor Trailer Chassis Mechanic

Interstate Waste Services is seeking a Tractor Trailer Chassis Mechanic to maintain and repair tractor trailers and chassis used in waste and recycling transport. In this safety-focused role, you will perform inspections, diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, complete brake, suspension, and lighting repairs, and conduct preventive maintenance to maximize uptime. You'll use diagnostic tools, follow DOT and company standards, and keep accurate service records.

Work closely with a collaborative operations team, supporting reliable, sustainable waste and recycling services for communities across the greater NY/NJ metro area.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair tractor trailers and chassis systems
• Perform preventive maintenance on tractors, trailers, and chassis per schedules
• Repair and adjust brakes, suspension, steering, and wheel-end components
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical and lighting systems on trailers and chassis
• Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify mechanical issues
• Ensure compliance with DOT, safety, and company maintenance standards
• Maintain accurate work orders, repair logs, and parts usage records
• Communicate equipment status and repair needs with supervisors and drivers
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas
• Support reliability of waste and recycling fleet operations
