Job Description

Summary/Objective

East Side House Settlement is a community resource in the South Bronx. We believe education is the key that enables all people to create economic and civic opportunities for themselves, their families and the communities. We are seeking a dynamic, hard-working, and creative leader who shares our passion for providing exceptional programming to children and families in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the South Bronx.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Executive Director, the Social Worker is integral to East Side House's strategy to organize resources and share leadership to integrate social services into the fabric of the programs and communities we serve. The Social Worker serve as the primary leaders of wrap-around services for program participants and families, design and implement (proactive and preventive) social work programs to promote social and emotional health, respond to day-to-day participant issues and unanticipated crises and their most immediate needs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Agency and Community

  • Lead mediations as necessary using relational-based models within social work practice and in alignment with ESH's commitment to Restorative Practices
  • Create interagency and external partnerships to further department/organizational goals
  • Support with recruitment efforts and agency representation during community outreach and advocacy
  • Attend meetings as needed and advocate/schedule meetings as necessary with social workers and other leaders within the organization
  • Participate in assigned staff development training's
  • Organize and lead three community events annually
  • Manage assigned special project(s) and represent social work presence in cross-departmental events
  • Establish partnerships with community organizations to substitute additional workshops and resources for the community and families we serve

Participant and Families

  • Conduct initial interview with participant/family for intake and assess participant/family needs and strengths
  • Make in-depth assessment using various age-appropriate assessment tools
  • Provide short-term supportive counseling and to alleviate crises for participant and families as necessary
  • Build strong relationships with families to facilitate collaborative approach to participant support
  • Serve as an internal liaison to link participants and families offered throughout ESH's programs
  • Provide and facilitate bilingual workshops for parents on interest areas surveyed during assessments
  • Design and implement creative interventions for participants with repeated instances of similar challenges

Support Services and Data Collection

  • Maintain paperwork in timely fashion: assessments, case notes, monthly reports, data input/forms
  • Facilitate Professional Development curriculum for interns, peers and provide consultation on social-emotional related issues to staff
  • Develop scope and sequence and unit plans for SEL lessons
  • Work collaboratively with program leadership to plan and execute Social Emotional Learning Time (SELT)
  • Manage social work intern program
Qualifications

Commitment to demonstrating ESH's organizational values of Excellence, Integrity, Compassion, Empathy, and Community

New York State LMSW from an accredited school of social work preferred

SIFI Certification strongly with at least one year's experience supervising social work interns

Knowledge of the network of social services available to parents and families in New York

Bilingual in English and Spanish

Excellent oral and written communication/interpersonal skills as well as a desire to collaborate with various

Ability to engage, build relationships, and demonstrate empathy with children and families

Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and responsibilities

Capacity to work independently and collaboratively with staff members

Diverse cultural competence required

Interest in and comfort with working with data informed practice

Computer proficiency including Microsoft Word and Excel, email correspondence, and database management a requisite

Required Clearances

  • Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Education (DOE)
  • Annual physical with TB screen
  • Must obtain NYC Dept. of Health Fingerprint clearance and State Central Registry (SCR)

Work Environment

The position is in an office environment. The dress code is business casual. This job operates in a professional environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Travel

Travel between ESH program locations is expected for this position. Travel throughout the NYC boroughs is expected for this position (on a need basis).
