Social Worker

As a member of the child study team, the social worker will provide a problem-solving service to children and their families. The social worker serves as a case manager, member of the CST for educational planning and placement, and provides social history assessment information. This position requires a high degree of responsibility, discretion, independent judgment and confidentiality.

Qualifications:

Master's degree from a graduate school of social work program including a supervised social work practicum. Certified as a NY School Social Worker with the DOE and holds a LMSW NY License Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, learning assessment and diagnosis, psychological research related to learning, and group and individual therapy strategies. Demonstrate an understanding of current rules and regulations regarding a child study team and special education assessment and program requirements.

Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary. Understand the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning child study team and charter school-related matters. Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the CEO finds appropriate and acceptable.

Performance Responsibilities:
The Social Worker shall:
Pursue the vision and execute the mission of iLearn Schools Inc. Serve as a contributing member of the child study team. Take the lead on the school's I&RS team. Support and promote board and administrative initiatives and decisions. Possess an understanding of the charter school renewal process and assist with the process as needed. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel and outside agencies associated with the charter school.

Maintain professional competence and continuous improvement through professional growth. Adhere to federal statutes and regulations, New York school law, New York Department of Education rules and regulations, iLearn Schools Inc. policies, procedures and contractual obligations. Take immediate action and notify appropriate personnel concerning any evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or anabolic steroids.

When required, provide crisis prevention and intervention services including suicide assessment screenings. Follow school affirmative action procedures. Maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of the charter school rules and regulations. Protect confidentiality of records and information about staff or students and use discretion when sharing such information within legal confines. Foster and maintain communication and dialogue with the staff. Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attend any required meetings.

Develop, write and oversee/monitor IEPs as prescribed by law. Administer CST assessments, including those encompassing a social history. Conduct social evaluations of both referred and classified students, prepare required reports and paperwork in a timely manner. Perform case manager responsibilities pursuant to special education regulations. Understand and comply with all laws and regulations pursuant to CST responsibilities. Maintain accurate records.

Consults and collaborates with other school personnel in gathering and giving information on a case, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of the student's behavior. Performs casework service with parents as an integral part of the task of helping students, to increase the parents' understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child's problems and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources available.
