Position:Electrical Engineer III – Instrumentation Engineer
Location:
Brook Park, Ohio (NASA Glenn Research Center, GEARS contract)
We are seeking an Instrumentation Engineer to provide instrumentation engineering support for hydrogen/oxygen regenerative fuel cells for lunar applications. The role includes analytical work, experimental design, test‑stand build‑up, and testing of electrochemical, electrical, fluidic, and thermal (including cryogenic) components and subsystems.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe selected candidate will:
- Provide instrumentation engineering support to NASA’s Glenn Research Center.
- Perform basic analytical work, experimental design, and test‑stand development.
- Test electrochemical, electrical, fluidic, and thermal components for lunar fuel‑cell projects.
- Strong hands‑on experience designing, assembling, and operating test benches and/or calibration stands for specialized instruments.
- Developing and executing calibration protocols to ensure measurement accuracy and precision.
- Interfacing sensors with data acquisition systems.
- Specifying and installing sensor types such as temperature, pressure, voltage, current, mass‑flow meters/controllers, humidistat, dew point, and spectrometers.
- Operating components in hazardous environments as per NFPA 70 Article 500.
- Familiarity with fuel‑cell and/or electrolysis hardware (stack and system levels) using chemistries such as PEM, alkaline, direct methanol, molten carbonate, phosphoric acid, or solid oxide.
- Experience designing or operating hardware for extreme thermal or aggressive chemical environments.
- Basic circuit, schematic, and P&n knowledge.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 5–10 years of experience.
- Master’s degree with 3–6 years of experience.
- Ph.D. with 0–3 years of experience.
