Project Engineer (contract)
Job Description
The Project Engineer supports a high‑volume OEM manufacturing plant during an intensive period of capital equipment investment and major upgrades to machining and assembly assets. This role blends engineering, project management, and manufacturing support to drive capital expenditure projects to completion, close process gaps, and ensure new equipment and upgrades are implemented on time and to specification. You will work closely with production, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to keep projects on track, improve equipment performance, and sustain reliable operations in a fast‑paced environment.
Responsibilities
+ Lead and support capital equipment projects across multiple machining and assembly areas, ensuring scope, schedule, and deliverables are clearly defined and met.
+ Plan and manage projects by gathering and comparing quotes, coordinating with machine tool vendors, and preparing complete Proforma packages for purchase order creation.
+ Pull and analyze machine and equipment performance data, identify trends, and prioritize CNC wellness actions to improve uptime, quality, and throughput.
+ Lead structured root cause and corrective action activities for equipment failures, process gaps, and production bottlenecks, driving sustainable solutions and documentation.
+ Provide day‑to‑day production support by evaluating rejects, reviewing CNC offsets, and identifying emergent improvement projects to stabilize and optimize operations.
+ Manage project tracking files, dashboards, and communication updates to keep stakeholders informed and ensure equipment upgrade deadlines are consistently met.
+ Coordinate with vendors and suppliers throughout the project lifecycle, including quoting, technical discussions, and purchasing system workflows.
+ Collaborate closely with machining, assembly, and operations teams to align capital projects with production needs and minimize disruption during installations.
+ Support installation and commissioning activities within tight windows, helping to plan, schedule, and follow up on tasks required for successful start‑up.
+ Balance multiple concurrent projects and priorities while maintaining organized documentation, schedules, and project status reports.
Essential Skills
+ Engineering background in a manufacturing or industrial setting, with practical exposure to production environments.
+ Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, including vendors, quotes, purchase order workflows, and associated tracking documents.
+ Experience in CNC machining, assembly operations, or high‑volume manufacturing environments, strongly preferred for this role.
+ Ability to analyze machine performance data, interpret trends, and convert insights into prioritized action items and improvement plans.
+ Proficiency with structured problem‑solving methodologies such as root cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
+ Experience working with vendors and suppliers and navigating purchasing systems to support capital equipment projects.
+ Strong organizational and coordination skills with attention to detail in project scheduling, documentation, and follow‑through.
+ Flexibility to support overtime, including approximately 10 hours per week and up to 25% additional time during peak project periods.
+ Effective communication skills to interact with production teams, technical staff, and external stakeholders.
+ Ability to work both on the production floor and in an office environment, switching between hands‑on support and analytical/project management tasks.
