The Stylist is responsible for engaging with guests, consulting on hair care needs, and recommending products and services. The Stylist delivers quality professional services with an emphasis on the guest’s total look. They support the Experience Manager (EM) and the Assistant Services Manager (ASM) through a focus on performance (service sales and productivity), people (guest service), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards).

This position requires a passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and the ability to learn and communicate product knowledge.

Essential Functions

The Stylist champions Ulta Beauty's mission, vision, and values and performs duties and responsibilities as assigned, including the following:

• Perform hair services including design, haircuts, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing (where applicable).
• Meet or exceed weekly sales goals for hair services and contribute to store goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink as set by Ulta Beauty.
• Demonstrate business acumen with understanding of business drivers and opportunities for growth.
• Perform product demonstrations with guests to drive sales and the guest service experience.
• Support the execution of in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives that deliver an exceptional guest experience.
• Stay informed on new and existing industry trends, products, and services and understand ingredients and benefits to better serve guests.
• Maintain prompt, regular attendance.

People

• Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate recommendations.
• Demonstrate high standards of customer service and salon image standards.
• Serve all guests, including walk-in guests, in a timely and efficient manner.
• Partner with skin therapists and the retail team to provide a total-store guest experience.
• Establish professional peer and brand partner relationships to collaboratively deliver exceptional guest service.
• Share the benefits of the guest loyalty program with guests in the salon and on the sales floor.
• Attend mandatory trainings and meetings to enable continuous professional development.

Process

• Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures and comply with state board guidelines.
• Follow established service protocols to ensure a consistent and exceptional guest experience.
• Utilize booking and clientele systems to schedule return services and events.
• Communicate supply needs to the EM to ensure guest readiness.
• Maintain store operational standards, including cleanliness of the salon, sales floor, restrooms, backroom, and break areas.
• Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code.
• Protect company assets by following loss prevention practices and delivering exceptional guest service.
• Execute other operational tasks as directed.

Education

• Cosmetology license

Experience

• Previous relevant salon experience is preferred.

Skills

• Proficiency with latest salon techniques for performing haircutting, color, lightening, styling, texture, treatments, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing (where applicable) and the ability to develop skills in all service categories.
• Proficiency with equipment and chemicals used to perform technical work.
• Proficiency to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional hair care and makeup products.
• Developed communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and build clientele.

Special Position Requirements

• Work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

• Frequent mobility during shift.
• Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs. during shift.
• Frequent stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching, twisting, and crouching during shift.
• Ability to stand for long periods.
• Occasional coordination and manipulation of objects during shift.
