Whisconier Middle School is looking for an outstanding Reading Specialist. Provide targeted reading instruction and intervention to middle school students based on individual literacy needs and areas of growth. Develop and implement evidence-based reading instruction aligned with curriculum standards and students' instructional needs. Assess student reading skills using a variety of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to monitor progress and inform instruction.
Analyze student data and collaborate with teachers to develop and adjust appropriate reading interventions and instructional strategies. Support students in developing reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, phonics/decoding, and other foundational literacy skills as appropriate. Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement, confidence, and a love of reading. Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, counselors, administrators, and families to support student literacy development and overall academic success.
Provide consultation and instructional support to classroom teachers regarding literacy strategies, interventions, and differentiated instruction. Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate student needs and growth to appropriate staff and families. Participate in professional development, grade-level/team meetings, school events, and other responsibilities as required. Training or certification in the Orton-Gillingham and/or Wilson Reading System approach is strongly preferred. Qualified candidates must hold a valid CSDE 102 cert.
