Job Description

Prepare and present PCB designs for technical review in compliance with the organization Design Processes.

Generate PCB document packages in compliance with the organization standards.

Work closely with PCB vendors to source prototypes from our design files (either 1-up or panelized) if required.

Participate in component library maintenance including creation of component footprints, generation of schematic symbols, 3D models and entry of new parts in the Electronics CAD (ECAD) library.

Complete ECAD/MCAD file transfer & work with members of the mechanical design team to achieve excellence in system design and quality.

Complete selected IPC or other training to enhance your knowledge & design skillset.

Commit to successful completion of CID training

Qualifications:

2+ years experience doing PCB design and layout

Experience in high-volume manufacturing (i.e. it can't be that they just worked on 1 circuit board that went into 1 product...designs turn around fast here, always working on something new).

Prefer experience in Altium

- Could the team consider a recent or junior level BSEE grad with PCB design/layout experience?

These were the exact words yesterday from the gentleman in which we are back filling for this role. The 20% refers to the amount of time he plans to allocate per week for training/oversight of this resource. I think a recent/junior level grad with some experience could work. Please feel free to share any resumes.

The greener the designer, the closer I'm going to get to that 20%. An ED II backfill ensures we bring someone on with experience in the industry and familiarity with at least one ECAD environment, if not Altium. They'll need help navigating our systems and processes, possibly learning a new ECAD tool but overall should be able to operate primarily on guidance from our EE/ME teams.

A senior-level designer would be great but it has been challenging in the past to find a designer at that level with a specific focus on power electronics design. Most of the applicants I've seen over the years come from the digital/high speed design sector and have some difficulty transitioning to our specific needs for power electronics. My concern is that we'll pay a premium for a senior-level digital designer that can only operate as well, or possibly worse, than an ED II less set in their ways.
