Engineer Technician - Connected Product Tester
Job Description
This role focuses on hands-on testing of a new connected product to ensure it is fully ready for market. You will own product testing end-to-end, running the system as a real user, validating features and workflows, and working closely with engineering teams to identify, document, and resolve issues across hardware, firmware, and software. This position is ideal for an experienced technician or test engineer who enjoys troubleshooting complex systems, driving product quality, and pushing testing beyond the obvious edge cases.
Responsibilities
+ Run the connected product as an end user to validate features, workflows, and overall performance.
+ Compare expected versus actual behavior across hardware, firmware, and digital interfaces to identify discrepancies.
+ Document issues clearly, including what happened, when it occurred, and why it matters to the user and product quality.
+ Capture logs and analyze system behavior, including basic firmware and microcontroller interactions.
+ Troubleshoot sensors, wiring, and system-level issues to isolate and resolve problems.
+ Collaborate with engineers to identify root causes and drive effective fixes through to completion.
+ Perform hands-on electrical work, including multimeter use, wiring fixes, and basic rework tasks.
+ Conduct high-volume testing ahead of product launch to simulate extensive real-world usage.
+ Test full system performance, including mechanical, electrical, firmware, and cloud integration aspects.
+ Validate that sensors, outputs, and system-level decisions function correctly under various conditions.
+ Act as the customer by identifying confusing workflows, glitches, and inconsistencies in the user experience.
+ Maintain strong, detailed documentation of observations, test results, and identified issues.
+ Take ownership of product quality by proactively expanding test coverage and pushing testing further than basic requirements.
Essential Skills
+ 3-5 years of experience in product testing, validation, or a similar role.
+ Proven experience with connected or electronic products such as IoT devices, appliances, or similar systems.
+ Ability to work confidently across hardware, firmware, and software interactions.
+ Hands-on troubleshooting skills for hardware, including sensors, wiring, and system-level issues.
+ Experience using test equipment such as multimeters and other hardware test tools.
+ Familiarity with schematics and hardware test methodologies.
+ Ability to capture and analyze logs related to firmware and microcontroller behavior.
+ Strong attention to detail and a commitment to thorough documentation.
+ Capability to compare expected and actual system behavior and clearly articulate findings.
+ Self-driven mindset with a strong sense of ownership over product quality.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Background as an engineer technician or test engineer working on connected products.
+
Experience with IoT systems, including cloud-integrated devices.
+ Comfort working in collaborative engineering environments while independently owning the testing function.
+ Strong written communication skills for clear issue reporting and documentation.
+ Ability to think from the end user's perspective and identify usability issues and confusing workflows.
Work Environment
You will work in a collaborative environment alongside other engineering teams while serving as the primary person focused on testing edge cases and day-to-day validation of the connected product. The role centers on hands-on work with hardware, firmware, and software, using test equipment such as multimeters and other hardware testing tools. You will regularly interact with engineering colleagues to review findings, discuss root causes, and align on fixes, while maintaining a high degree of independence and ownership over the testing process and product quality.
