Position Overview

St. Martin’s Episcopal School seeks a culturally competent, responsive, and student-centered educator to serve as a Kairos Learning Teacher in our Middle School.

The Middle School Kairos Learning Center (KLC) provides specialized academic support for students whose learning profiles indicate a need for additional strategies in executive functioning and language-based learning differences. Using the Orton-Gillingham approach and other research-based instructional practices, the Kairos Learning Teacher provides explicit, small-group instruction designed to strengthen students’ academic skills, executive functioning, independence, confidence, and self-advocacy.

This is an exciting opportunity for an educator who is passionate about working with Middle School students with learning differences and enjoys collaborating with classroom teachers, families, and other professionals to help students develop the strategies they need to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

The Kairos Learning Teacher will:

  • Teach approximately four to five small-group classes focused on language arts, math, executive functioning, and academic support.
  • Provide specialized instruction to small groups, generally six or fewer students, using the Orton-Gillingham approach and other research-based strategies.
  • Provide explicit instruction and support in reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and written expression.
  • Teach executive functioning strategies including organization, planning, prioritization, time management, task initiation, and self-monitoring.
  • Help students break long-term assignments and projects into manageable steps and monitor progress toward completion.
  • Apply specialized learning strategies to students’ current academic work to help students transfer skills from Kairos to their other classes.
  • Develop individualized goals and strategies based on students’ learning profiles, academic needs, and progress.
  • Regularly monitor, evaluate, document, and communicate student academic progress.
  • Foster increasing levels of independence, self-advocacy, problem-solving, and ownership of learning.
  • Collaborate closely with classroom teachers and grade-level teams to identify and implement strategies that support individual student learning needs.
  • Coordinate with classroom teachers regarding assignments, projects, assessments, and other academic expectations.
  • Partner with other Kairos faculty, the English Department, school counselor, and Middle School leadership to provide coordinated student support.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, successes, challenges, and opportunities for continued growth.
  • Collaborate with approved outside practitioners and specialists who may be involved in supporting individual students.
  • Participate in parent conferences, Parent Night, faculty meetings, grade-level and departmental meetings, professional development, and other required School activities.
  • Create a structured, supportive, and engaging learning environment responsive to diverse learning needs.
  • Integrate appropriate technology, digital resources, and instructional tools to enhance student learning.
  • Support the mission, values, programs, and broader life of St. Martin’s Episcopal School.
  • Chaperone field trips, including local field trips, and fall and spring overnight trips
  • Chaperone one Middle School dance
  • Adheres to all school policies, including safety and emergency procedures
Qualifications Required
