Qualifications

  • Possess valid Mississippi Commercial Driver's License with a passenger and safety endorsement.
  • Possess valid bus driver's card issued by the State Department of Education.
  • Meet all DOT physical and mental health requirements as required by law and Board policy.
  • 4. Must be 18 years of age.
  • Negative drug and alcohol testing prior to employment mandatory.
  • Obtain clear child abuse, law enforcement, and other background checks.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Job Goals

To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest advantage from the district's curriculum and extracurricular program.

Requirements
  • Obey all traffic laws: A:
    Stop at all stop signs and red lights. B:
    Don't exceed posted speed zones.
  • Maintain discipline when students are on the bus within legal limits: A:
    Students must be seated. B:
    No eating, drinking, smoking, etc. C:
    Write referrals for all student violations, within reason. D:
    Assign BOYS to one side and GIRLS to the other side. E:
    Noise level at reasonable tolerance level. F:
    Never touch a student in an effort to discipline him or her.
  • Observe all mandatory safety regulation for school buses, both districts and state: A:
    Speed limit for route is 45 m.p.h., or posted speed limit. B:
    The speed limit for activity trips is 50 m.p.h. C:
    In the McComb School District you never cross a railroad track. When you go out of town and have to cross a railroad track you must observe the proper procedures.
  • Operate on assigned schedule: A:
    Maintain the same pick up times daily. B:
    Do not make any new stops without first clearing it with the supervisor. C:
    Let students off at their assigned stops only, if possible D:
    Students must have a special request or a note signed by the principal to get off at another bus stop.
  • Keep assigned bus clean: A:
    Sweep bus daily. B:
    Wash bus weekly or as needed.
