South Dakota State University is looking for a Policy/Data Analyst to join our Finance and Budget team. The Policy/Data Analyst supports SDState’s budget and personnel operations through advanced data collection, analysis, and reporting. This role interprets and applies relevant institutional and system‑level policies, evaluates compliance within assigned areas, and provides analytical insights to inform strategic and operational decision‑making. The analyst helps manage key data systems, conducts structured analyses of personnel and budget activity, and collaborates with departments across campus to promote consistent, compliant, and data‑driven administrative practices.

Job Responsibilities
  • Oversee data collection, validation, and reporting processes for assigned personnel and budget systems, including faculty workload tracking.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc analytical reports for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with reporting standards.
  • Review personnel and budget transactions—including Work‑Study and summer activity—to assess accuracy, policy alignment, and potential compliance concerns.
  • Identify workflow issues and recommend process and data‑quality improvements to strengthen operational effectiveness.
  • Verify personnel and budget data for accuracy, consistency, and alignment with established budget and policy requirements.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies across Banner and related systems while supporting required reporting through thorough data checks.
