OVERVIEW South Dakota State University is seeking an Advisor for Student Success within the Office of International Student and Scholar Engagement. This full-time, 12-month position supports international students through advising, compliance guidance, and educational programming designed to strengthen student engagement and retention. The role is based in Brookings, South Dakota, and focuses on helping students maintain legal status while navigating university, state, and federal requirements.
The Office of International Student and Scholar Engagement serves as a comprehensive resource for international student and scholar services. The position works closely with potential and current students and their family members by providing education related to federal immigration regulations and institutional policies.
- Guide students through the ongoing maintenance of legal status
- Assist in safeguarding institutional and student compliance with university, state, and federal mandates
- Initiate and implement educational programs that support the engagement and retention of international students
- Provide services to potential and current international students and their family members
- Offer preliminary immigration advice through education on federal immigration regulations
- Help students remain in compliance with university, state, and federal guidelines
- Implement educational and social programs for international students
- Support the mission of International Student and Scholar Engagement
- Passion for helping students succeed
- Ability to serve students with an emphasis on the international student population
- Eligibility for Alternative Responsible Officer (ARO) status
- Eligibility for Designated School Official (DSO) status
- Ability to provide education regarding federal immigration regulations
