Associate/Full Professor and Extension Swine Specialist – Farm Credit Services of America Endowed Chair in Swine Production

South Dakota State University’s Department of Animal Science invites applications for an Associate/Full Professor and Extension Swine Specialist. The 9‑month, full‑time position is based in Brookings, SD and will focus on applied swine production Extension programming.

• Lead an applied swine production Extension program addressing the needs of pig producers in South Dakota, the region, and nationally.
• Contribute to the web‑based Extension platform and work directly with producers to identify needs and develop programs.
• Collaborate with faculty from Animal Science, Ag & Biosystems Engineering, Veterinary Science, the Ness School of Management and Economics, and industry partners.
• Establish an extramurally funded research program focused on pork producer needs and attract graduate students.
• Contribute to undergraduate teaching in animal science courses.

• Earned Ph.D. in Animal Science with emphasis in swine science.
• Eligible for rank of Associate Professor at SDSU.
• In‑depth understanding of modern swine industry management.
• Proven experience working with swine producers and developing high‑impact outreach programs.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to solve issues in modern pork production through research and practice.
• High‑quality publication record commensurate with SDSU Associate Professor expectations.
• Enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching and applied research.
• Leadership capacity and national or international reputation for scholarship in swine production.
• Ability to develop collaborative partnerships with universities, government agencies, industry and non‑profit organizations.

• Publication record commensurate with SDSU Full Professor expectations.
• Evidence of successful team leadership and collaboration with stakeholders, extension agents, and research teams.
