Position OverviewGate Trust Co. is seeking an experienced trust operations to help lead the establishment and ongoing operations of the Trust Company in South Dakota.
This role will work closely with executive management, legal, compliance, operations, and external advisors to support trust administration, fiduciary governance, regulatory readiness, and institutional client servicing. The position is expected to serve as the South Dakota-based President for trust charter purposes, while the day-to-day working title may be Trust Director or Head of Trust Administration.
Key Responsibilities Trust Administration & Operations- Support the establishment and ongoing management of trust administration operations, policies, and procedures
- Oversee onboarding, account administration, operational approvals, and client servicing workflows
- Help build and manage the Sioux Falls-based operational team
- Assist in developing operational controls, escalation procedures, and governance processes appropriate for a regulated trust company
- Participate in trust governance, operational, and compliance committee discussions
- Serve as a designated fiduciary officer in accordance with applicable South Dakota trust company requirements
- Support ongoing communications and examination readiness with the South Dakota Division of Banking
- Maintain operational documentation and records in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements
- Assist with implementation of fiduciary oversight, compliance, and risk management processes
- Stay informed regarding trust, custody, AML/BSA, and digital asset regulatory developments
- Support the operational launch and scaling of the Trust Company
- Coordinate with external vendors, banking partners, legal counsel, and service providers
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the Trust Company’s operational and governance framework
- Work closely with executive management and the Board of Directors regarding operational matters
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Law, Accounting, or related field preferred
- 5+ years of experience in trust operations, fiduciary services, custody operations, banking operations, or related regulated financial services
- Experience working within a regulated financial institution environment preferred
- Familiarity with trust company operations, fiduciary processes, compliance, or custody administration
- Strong organizational, operational, and documentation skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and evolving regulatory environment
- Strong judgment, professionalism, and communication skills
- South Dakota residency, or willingness to relocate to South Dakota
