Software Licensing Specialist – South Dakota State University

South Dakota State University (SDSU) Division of Technology and Security is offering an exciting career opportunity as a Software Licensing Specialist. The role is a 12‑month, full‑time, benefits‑eligible position located in Brookings, SD, supervised by the Director of Technology Contracts.

The candidate must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate new software requests and manage software renewals for the University.
  • Ensure the approved software inventory remains accurate and renewals are proactively managed.
  • Process software licensing requests efficiently and in compliance with institutional policies.
  • Route contracts through the electronic signature system, coordinate with vendors and campus stakeholders, schedule consultations, maintain software inventory, and manage the renewal database.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and departments such as Information Security, General Counsel, Human Resources, Finance and Budget, Administrative Shared Services Center, and Board of Regents representatives as needed.
  • Maintain a team‑oriented, adaptable mindset, follow established processes, and identify process improvements.
  • Communicate effectively across departments, manage vendor relationships, and exercise sound judgment in coordinating complex processes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in management, business administration, information technology, project management, procurement, supply chain management, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in a related field.
  • Excellent time‑management skills and ability to prioritize and execute multiple concurrent processes.
  • Experience working with technology vendors and managing vendor relationships.
  • General knowledge of technology‑related systems and IT service management processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 products such as Outlook, Word, Excel, One Drive, and/or Teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate highly technical information to non‑technical customers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across departments, manage vendor relationships, and exercise sound judgment in coordinating complex processes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting faculty, staff, and students in a higher education environment.
  • Technology and/or project management related certifications.
  • Software license management experience.
