Independent Living Choices is seeking a Part-Time Independent Living Specialist for our Brookings Office.

Independent Living Specialists work alongside people with disabilities to help them identify and access needed services.

Independent Living Choices is a 501c3 Nonprofit that provides services to people with disabilities who make independence their choice. One of only 2 Centers for Independent Living in the state of South Dakota, we provide services to 50 counties and all 9 Tribal Nations.

Many of our employees have been with Independent Living Choices for a number of years. That is because we prioritize work-life balance, provide our staff with a great deal of autonomy, provide great benefits, and never lose sight of our mission; provide services to people with disabilities who make independence their choice. Starting wage is between $17 -$19 per hour, depending on qualifications.

PTO will be prorated based on the amount of hours worked per week. You'll have 11 paid holidays annually.

No two days as an Independent Living Specialist are the same. As an Independent Living Specialist, you'll spend time in the office, local communities, and in the homes of people with disabilities. You will provide direct services to participants, help them identify and access resources and services, make referrals, participate in outreach activities, facilitate peer support groups, transition classes, and more!

The right candidate will be self‑motivated and passionate about helping others. Qualified candidates will excel in problem solving, verbal communication, written communication, and organizational skills. A bachelor’s degree in human services, social work or a related field would be acceptable. An equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred, but not required. Applicants must possess a valid South Dakota driver’s license.
