Position SummaryFocus:
The musical and liturgical engine of Sunday worship gatherings and special events
The Worship Director is responsible for ensuring the smooth and sustainable operation of the church’s Sunday worship gatherings and special events via leadership, development, and execution in the areas of musical worship, liturgical readings, and prayers. The job requires a precise thoughtful and incarnational understanding of the arts and the Spirit.
This role is a Part Time position (20 hours per week) with expectations of working from the office for a minimum of two days per week. Some work may be required on evenings and weekends. This position reports directly to a staff Pastor.
Key Responsibilities Worship Gatherings – 15 Hrs/Wk- Plan the musical and liturgy portions of our weekly worship gatherings in worship in coordination with staff pastors
- Lead and play in the band at least 3 times a month
- Regularly curate and write worship liturgy and prayers
- Recruit, Develop & Train worship musicians and leaders (includes worship interns)
- Provide auxiliary care
* where appropriate for worship team members - Audition & coach worship band applicants
- Manage worship band volunteer rotation
- Maintain band-related part of the “Services” planning center module
- Maintain database of chord sheets, music, and multi-track files
- General troubleshooting of all AV equipment as needed
- Coordinating the repair and purchase band equipment (
Note:
AV equipment is purview of Technical Associate) - Renewal and management of necessary software licenses/subscriptions
- Set annual budget for Worship Ministry in coordination with Pastoral supervisor and Technical Associate
- Weekly oversight of worship intern(s) for coaching and delegation of the worship tasks of this job description
- Monthly coordination with the Technical Associate to discuss soundtech needs, coordinate around equipment, weekly gatherings, and special events
- Quarterly oversight of the Propresenter lead to discuss needs, coordinate around equipment, weekly gatherings, and special events
- Meet every two weeks with a staff pastor for coaching
- Take a half day a month for reflection, reading, & planning
- Musical Leadership:
Proven ability to musically direct a band on a Sunday morning without mid-week rehearsal - Spiritual Leadership:
Experienced and educated in approaching worship, prayer, and gatherings through a robust theological and pastoral lens. - Cultural Awareness:
Aware of the subjective experience of objective spiritual realities based on upbringing, culture, geography, and life stage - Volunteer
Experience:
Able to think empathically and strategically about the experience of a diverse group of both professional and amateur musicians serving together in the worship ministry - Proactive Problem-Solving:
Ability to anticipate administrative and logistical needs and resolve mid-week challenges independently. - Reliable and Trustworthy:
Demonstrated integrity in handling financial administration and confidential information. - Strong Communication & Interpersonal
Skills:
Ability to serve as a professional point of contact for church inquiries and to collaborate effectively with staff, volunteers, and external partners.
- Logistical Execution:
Competence in planning and executing event-specific needs, equipment management, and day-of Sunday logistics. - Music Technology:
Familiarity with or able to learn mixing software (LV1 or equivalent), DAWs (Ableton and Logic), audio mixing and production. - Digital Fluency:
Experience or willingness to quickly learn church management software (Planning Center) and other tools (Slack, Google Suite, Gemini AI/similar, Asana/similar).
